The changes in warfare during the past decades have greatly affected all aspects of combat. The introduction of improved weaponry and ammunition has altered the types of injuries and the severity and numbers of casualties seen in battlefi eld, while improvement in prehospital and combat casualty care and transportation has allowed the evacuation of injured soldiers to trauma centers, thus saving more lives.
