Abstract

This chapter details the surgical steps involved in an Oberlin transfer procedure to treat brachial plexus injury. The musculocutaneous and ulnar nerves are determined, and ulnar nerve fascicles stimulating the flexor carpi ulnaris (FCU) muscle are identified by electrical stimulation. A fascicular nerve transfer is performed coapting ulnar nerve to musculocutaneous nerve motor branch to the biceps. Microscope magnification assistance for the nerve transfer is ideal. Indications, essential steps, postoperative care, and sample operative dictation are included.
