Abstract

Drawing together insights on autistic experience from three essays in this volume—Chapter 5 by Michael B. Bakan, Chapter 6 by Elizabeth Fein, and Chapter 7 by Jurandir Freire Costa and Roy Richard Grinker—this commentary offers a reflection on how semiotic strategies that transcend the referential paradigm can deepen our understanding of autistic communication.
