Abstract

Chris Mairs has a degenerative hereditary eye condition and has been registered blind since the age of 18. He has worked in digital technology development for the past 27 years. For most of this period he has been on the board of Data Connection—a 350 person UK communications technology company, of which he was one of the founders. He is currently Chief Technical Officer of Data Connection's MetaSwitch division which builds packet-based telephony switches for the North American market. Chris is also chairman of a-technic—a charity researching and prototyping assistive technology, primarily to help people with sensory impairments. His passion outside work is waterskiing and he captained the British Disabled Team that won three World Championships throughout the 1990s.
