Abstract

This concluding chapter provides the summary of the volume. The chapters contained in this volume represent proceedings from the conference titled 'Trauma-Informed Schools: How Child Maltreatment Prevention, Detection, and Intervention can be integrated into the School Setting', which was held from October 10 through 11, 2016. Each of the preceding chapter topics should be considered within the core elements of a trauma-informed school system framework and as a starting point in discussing how to begin the process of incorporating trauma-informed ideals into schools. The final session of the conference consisted of an open discussion that engaged audience members in a dialogue with the panel members regarding the next steps toward promoting and implementing a trauma-informed framework in schools. The discussion session began with a dialogue about the importance of collaborative partnerships with multiple systems involved with children's education and the consideration of trauma-informed frameworks. The next area of concern brought up to the panel by audience members centered on concerns around acknowledging trauma and potential stigmatizing effects of such efforts. Subsequent panel discussions focused on how schools and students would be assessed as a result of implementing a trauma-informed framework.
