The article presents the issue of diversity management as an essential competence of a manager. The purpose of this paper is to present these skills of a manager which are related to understanding the aspects of the diversity of human resources and their exploitation at work, on the background of the diversity management. The objective was achieved by literature studies, observation of economic practice and social changes and review of available studies. The conclusions of the analyzes indicate that the social and economic changes in the labor market force the manager to take into account the diversity of employees. The ability to understand these differences, taking into account the problems of each group, and integrating employees around the goals of the organization, are becoming increasingly important skills necessary for effective management teams. Managing diversity increases the comfort of persons belonging to minority groups and shape a positive image of the company among potential partners, employees and the public.
