Abstract

This chapter describes basic principles of conduct for operations in contaminated or infected territory. These include (among others) surgery for peritonitis, perforation, dead bowel, strangulation obstruction, and abscess. The medical and operative management are always complex. General principles are stressed, and specific tactics for dealing with difficult situations are discussed.
