Abstract

Self-focusing damage in a pattern of Fresnel fringes is observed in the final element of a high-power glass laser amplifier as the result of the truncation of a Gaussian input beam. Detailed calculations give good agreement with the location and pattern of damage. © 1973 American Institute of Physics.
