Abstract

Said et al. and Larsen et al. present the clinical, morphologic, and genetic features of a recently described amyloidosis, derived from leukocyte chemotactic factor 2 (Alect2), which is beginning to be recognized as an important cause of end-stage renal disease in Hispanics. While the etiology of Alect2 is unknown, and there is currently no effective treatment, it is important to avoid misdiagnosing it as the more common AL, and applying harmful treatment in consequence. © 2014 International Society of Nephrology.
