With the support of a trustful relationship - sometimes existing already for a long time - between the pediatrician and the family, the psychotherapist may enter in this system trough a tangential yet incisive way. A unique consultative session may have effects at different levels : to advise the pediatrician in his follow up of the family, to give new viewpoints to the family members that open up possibilities for change. It may end up in a request for psychotherapy. The particularities and specific ways of intervening during such a session are presented and concretely illustrated by clinical vignettes. The article is written conjointly by one psychologist and by one pediatrician, and based on a ten years practice of collaboration.
