Abstract

Hollow/porous three-dimensional (3D) woven structure reinforced composites contain plenty of spaces filled with air in their textile structures. 3D woven structures are formed by binding one group of vertical yarns in the thickness direction with other yarns in all layers, giving the composites many advantages, such as light weight, good resistance to interlaminar shear, excellent absorbedenergy performance, good impact resistance, high stiffness, good noise insulation and thermal shield, etc. Now these composites have been widely used in many applications due to their properties. In this chapter, hollow/porous 3D woven structure reinforced composites were introduced from all aspects which include definitions, designs, characterization methods, preform productions, composite preparations and applications, etc.
