Abstract

There are myriad ethical issues associated with the initiation, maintenance, and termination of ECMO in post-cardiotomy patients. As ECMO becomes more commonly implemented, it is important to consider many of these ethical issues in consenting, counseling, and comforting families who are struggling to grasp the technical, medical and ethical issues that this technology presents.
