Abstract

The flue duct expansion joint seal used at power generating stations is described. The seal is a modular elastomeric membrane, mechanically affixed to the mating sections of ductwork to flexibly bridge the gap between them. Viton fluoroelastomer is used for its combination of elasticity, physical durability and resistance to heat, chemicals, oxidation and weathering. Wire flue duct joints are moulded from Viton reinforced with two plies of knitted corrosion resistant wire mesh and feature integral flanges for ready on-site attachment. (H.C.B.)
