Abstract

I conclude by summarising the main points and questions that I set out at the beginning of the book. The book, so far, has taken a more extreme view of the informal economy compared to Marxists, social developmentalists and the neoclassical thinkers. The Gonds, who do unskilled wage work in affluent states of India and for whom, informal work is considered more secured than formal and salaried jobs which do not exist in the region due to a Tiger Reserve. Gonds show how the bulk of India's workers are also peasants who are workers and labourers only in disguise. They need to maintain one foot in the farm for food security and as a result, cannot afford to finish formal schooling, as was shown in previous chapter, which is a requirement to have a salaried, formal, and permanent job.
