Examines taxonomic considerations in looking at polymorphisms and associated differences in life history; reviews information on genetic variation in zooplankton populations, concentrating on factors influencing the extent of intrapopulational divergence, and concluding that ecological differences among genotypes are likely to be considerably more marked in populations reproducing by obligate or continued parthenogenesis than in those that reproduce sexually; and explores the nature of genetic variation in birth rates, susceptibility to predation and tolerance to physical factors. -P.J.Jarvis
