With rapid advancements in smartphone and wearable technologies in the past decade, the world has virtually become a smaller place, facilitating connectivity between opposite ends of the globe just by the click of a button. However, certain emergency situations might not provide the opportunity or the window for that click as well. Hence, the need for a semi-automatically triggered distress signal activation scheme arises. In this paper, we introduce such a smartphone-based solution for all-round personal security that takes into account multiple modes of SOS broadcast activation, such as manual, Internet of Things (IoT) device data based and phone state data based. Also, we develop a couple of wearable device prototypes and test them for realtime detection and activation of SOS broadcast using a smartphone application.
