Abstract

The author’s view about frequently encountered negative comments on plant factories with artificial lighting (PFAL) is briefly described regarding the initial and operation costs, economic viability, environmental sustainability, usefulness to small-scale growers, usefulness in local areas far from large cities, and applicability for seedling production, seed propagation, and breeding. PFAL is considered to contribute to achieving some of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations.
