Abstract

Molecular iodine in the presence of potassium carbonate has been found to be an efficient and eco-friendly catalyst for the synthesis of polysubstituted dicyanoanilines from aldehydes, acetone and malononitrile under solvent-free thermal condition. The experimental procedure is simple, includes shorter reaction times (less than 10 min) and results in excellent yield of the products. © 2013 Indian Academy of Sciences.
