Abstract

This article starts with a brief introduction and then describes the status quo of biometrics in mainland China. The main part of this article focuses on ethical concerns caused by biometrics. The ethical concerns include privacy, stigma and discrimination, dangers to owners of secured items, losing identity and other unease and worry. It concludes with recommendations on ethical governance of biometrics, and suggests a number of ethical principles to build an ethical framework for evaluating conducts taken in biometrics. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2010.
