Abstract

TheFaculty of Medicine at Cairo University in Egypt has a responsibility to ensure that scientifically valid research is conducted according to accepted ethical practices that promote the rights and welfare of research subjects. As such, in 2002, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine established a research ethics committee (REC) to review human subject research conducted by staff at Kasr Al Ainy hospital. Cairo University obtained an FWA from the US Office of Human Research Protections (OHRP); the REC is also registered at OHRP.
