Abstract

Studied the desire for autonomy and for information of randomly selected Japanese adolescents and adults with hypothetical diseases. Human Ss: 3,110 normal male and female Japanese adolescents and adults (aged 16 yrs to over 90 yrs) (selected from 2-stage stratified sampling of 4,500 Ss in 300 geographic areas throughout Japan). A 23-item questionnaire based on 5 hypothetical vignettes involving diseases of varying severity (high blood pressure, incipient cancer, terminal cancer, poststroke paralysis, and brain hemorrhage) was administered.
