THE LOCOMOTOR MOVEMENT EXERCISES TO OPTIMIZE THE PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT OF MOTORIC ASPECTS OF CHILDREN WITH DOWN SYNDROME. One aspect that is very important for the development and growth of early childhood is the gross motor aspect, because gross motor development will have implications for the future development of children. Likewise with children with physical and mental retardation (Down Syndrome). To optimize the physical development of motoric aspects of children with Down syndrome, a teacher or parent needs to provide movement exercises for children, for example locomotor movements. The purpose of writing this article is to describe the gross motor development of children with Down syndrome through locomotor motion exercises. The research subject in this study was a child with the initials Jf who attended the Pelangi Anak Negeri Islamic Kindergarten aged 5 years and 5 months and experienced Down syndrome with mild intellectual disability. In the research process, researchers used descriptive qualitative methods with data collection techniques using observation, interview and documentation techniques. While the data analysis technique in this study was carried out using the Miles and Huberman models with the data analysis stages namely data reduction, data presentation, drawing conclusions and verification by testing the wetness of the data using triangulation techniques. The results showed that the physical motoric aspects of Down syndrome children developed after being given locomotor exercises. Children are able to perform locomotor movements such as running, crawling, walking, climbing, sliding, crouching, jumping, rolling and jumping.
