This paper introduces a pushdown automata simulator as a component of our evolving integrated virtual environment project for learning computational models and automata theory. The twofold contribution of this work is a novel use of modern technology to improve learning and a longitudinal quasi-experimental evaluation of its use in context. © 2009 Springer Berlin Heidelberg.
