Exhaust gas recirculation is increasingly being integrated into both diesel and gasoline engines with the focus on reducing emissions or on improving fuel efficiency, respectively. Also the potential in terms of energy of warm exhaust gases is becoming more investigated. These relative new techniques involve the cooling of the exhaust gas and so are bringing some new challenges, since exhaust condensation may occur under certain circumstances. Aim of this paper is to clarify, when this condensation process begins and which exhaust components are likely to be found in condensate.
