Abstract

Cocaine, is also called cocain, was mainly separated from the leaves of coca. Cocaine is white crystal powder and odorless. It is insoluble in water, soluble in chloroform, ethyl ether, ethanol, and other organic solvents. In 1855, cocaine was first extracted from the leaves of herbal ingredients and was used as a local anesthetic in 1840. At present, the clinical dosage form of cocaine is injection, and it is mainly used for local anesthesia in various operations. Cocaine is the first natural alkaloid with local anesthesia effect and is replaced by other anesthetics for its toxic and addictive properties now.
