Abstract

Acute mesenteric ischemia usually involves the region supplied by the superior mesenteric artery (SMA). Thus the small intestine is predominantly affected but the right colon, which is also supplied by the SMA,can be involved as well. Isolated ischemia of the colon, which is much less common, will be discussed separately under the heading of ischemic colitis in > Chap. 24. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2005.
