Abstract

This chapter provides a descriptive analysis of the domestic sector in Europe in a comparative perspective, using the European Labour Forces Survey data. From a theoretical point of view, the analyses presented here aim to explore the main features of contemporary paid domestic work, discussed in Chap. 2. The findings are interpreted in light of the literature and of existing findings from institutional sources. Specific attention is paid to highlighting commonalities and differences between European countries and to discuss trends in terms of convergence and cross-national variation. From a methodological point of view, these analyses allow to discuss the methodological limitations of the data and the consequences they have on the findings.
