Abstract

There has been an increase in the use of video lessons in education since the 1990s. Currently, video platforms on the Internet facilitate the access and publication of video lessons from various disciplines. In this paper, we aimed to identify Chemistry channels on YouTube Edu and analyze the characteristics of their most popular video lessons by evaluating some technical and pedagogical aspects. We identified 15 Chemistry channels on YouTube Edu, of which his most popular video lessons have diversified characteristics, but which generally have long durations and the teacher speaking when using a blackboard to expose content directed for high school level. We conclude that the characteristics related to the teaching resources and strategies of the video classes analyzed are similar to those of traditional classroom lectures.
