Explores indicators of psychological distress in child and adult members of cultural minority groups, as well as causal explanatory hypotheses to account for intracultural differences in the prevalence and expression of psychosocial distress and disorders. The authors focus on the Aboriginal people of Canada, who occupy the lowest social and economic position in that society, in order to show that the vulnerability of cultural minority people to negative psychosocial outcomes lies not with cultural differences but rather with inegalitarian intracultural relations.
