Abstract

The traffic signal control systems offer an effective settlement for the city traffic management. In this paper, the operation process of traffic signal systems for one-way street and crossroad is described by using timed Petri nets. Furthermore, the linear dynamic equations of the systems are established by the max-plus algebra. Based on these, the cycle time of traffic signal systems is calculated. It is found out that the cycle time of traffic signal systems for one-way street is independent of the travel time between two traffic lights.
