Abstract

Virtual reality is a realistic and immersive simulation of a three-dimensional environment, created using interactive software which replicates an imaginary setting for human interaction. It has compelling possibilities in medical field and already has been developed in exposure therapy, post-traumatic stress disorder, pain management, phantom limb pain control, and social cognition training for young adults with autism and meditation. These technologies are readily available; cost-effective tools, therefore, have the potential to support medical education and training, along with the orthopaedic trainee education.
