Abstract

Hair is a natural fiber that can be damaged by photoinduced oxidative damage. Sunscreens can prevent damage to hair protein and preserve hair color enhancing cosmesis. Aging hair is more susceptible to photoinduced damaged as gray hair lacks melanin, which quenches oxygen radicals from UV radiation. Hair growth rate and hair diameter both decrease with advancing age. © 2010 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
