The use of nanofluidics opens up a new arena for materials science. Especially, it offers the possibility of selective manipulation and accurate assembly of individual molecules and nanoscale objects in the liquid phase, revolutionarily impacting on future material fabrication and chemical synthesis. Burgeoning progress has been made, and some of this progress, of particular interest, is discussed by Yan Xu in article number 1702419.
