As a part of an on-going work of developing a feasible model of delivering mental health care to people, rural community mental health center of NIMHANS detected 52 schizophrenic patients in 100 villages by a simple method. Most of them were chronically ill and were badly managed in the community. They were put on free medication and treated in their own community. Many are showing moderate to good improvement. Follow up was done either by the patient visiting the center or the team visiting the patient. The experiences of managing them in the community are communicated.
