Abstract

Colombian pharmaceutical industry has been growing since 2000; in 2006 net utilities increased by 15%, and ROA was 7.72% [1]. Furthermore, enterprises with IT governance focus on organizational objectives have yielded superior results than their competitors [2], [3]. We performed a research project to find out if there are similarities amongst Colombian pharmaceutical enterprises that have obtained positive results. In this project, we studied IT governance, operational model, engagement model, and portfolio management of five pharmaceutical enterprises, one of them a medium sized local enterprise. Annual income of these enterprises is about 14% of annual sales for the industry, so this is a representative study [1]. Our results show that IT governance behavior of Colombian pharmaceutical industry is similar to that of large superior global enterprises. © 2010 Springer-Verlag.
