SD is able to obtain some engineering jobs, while the laboratory is developing a direct ethylene oxide process that would be of great interest to new entrants to the industry, as well as to existing global producers currently using the traditional technology. This was SD's fist big success, eventually leading to many domestic and international licenses and engineering projects. SD also develops and licenses several other technologies, including maleic and phthalic anhydride, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), chlorinated solvents, and others. SD is successful in finding new technologies ready for further development in Europe and in granting licenses to European and Japanese chemical clients from offices established in Paris and Tokyo.
