Abstract

The present chapter is based on the anthropological literature on the communities of Rajasthan which are directly associated with animals economically and culturally. In this discussion these communities have been grouped as: Hunters, pastoralists, entertainers, and conservationists. The text is arranged to provide some understanding of (1) the condition and present status of the communities, (2) the animals or speci fi c breeds in terms of economy and socio-cultural association, and (3) consequences of environmental degradation on the communities.
