Nine mulch treatments—2 organic, 6 synthetic, and a control—were evaluated for use around 5 vegetable crops and 2 woody ornamental species. Distinct diurnal soil-temperature regimes developed under the mulches resulting in differences in plant growth and yield. No single mulch performed best for all species.
