Energy demand continues to grow worldwide while the extraction of fossil fuels becomes more difficult and expensive. The ways we produce, convert, store, and use energy are changing the earth's climate and effecting the environment hence the ways of human’s life as well as the next generation's future. As the industrial revolution progressed increased the use of electricity and the importance of liquid transportation fuels. Since the supply depended largely on fossil fuels plus some hydro power and nuclear energy, concerns kept increasing for Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions contributing to possible global warming. After advances, global efforts concentrated in replacing energy dense fossil fuels with the relatively dilute nature of wind and solar energy, which is very materials intensive. With the global consensus to utilize wind and solar energy, their costs have fallen and become comparable with the conventional sources because of the increased costs of fossil fuel technologies, especially with decarbonization charges. New focus may be on achieving a balance between supply and demand of renewables.
