Abstract

Despite the postulates of St Vincent Declaration there is little evidence that state-of-the-art treatment is provided to the majority of diabetic patients with renal disease. This pessimistic conclusion is supported by an epidemiological survey in Berlin documenting suboptimal diabetes control, suboptimal blood pressure control, and delayed time of referral to the nephrologist in the majority of diabetic patients with renal diseases in the city.
