Abstract

I give an account of john dewey's view of experience, as this is developed in "experience and nature" and "art as experience". the account is organized to suggest the relationship between artistic and aesthetic experience. for dewey, experience refers to a means/consequence or end connection. it is only when we notice such connections that we are conscious of meanings.... aesthetic and artistic experience differ from other forms of experience by the way they relate means and consequences or ends.
