Abstract

In this article the authors shortly present major information on the PTCS (Polish Toll Collecting System) development, also known as viaTOLL, over the past three years. The article presents covering of road network divided into national roads, expressways and motorways, and, in parallel, the development of the distribution network. The authors also present some statistics and trends in the number of vehicles registered in the System. The second part of the article presents the perspectives of the further PTCS development in terms of the road network coverage as well as the further development of the system functionalities in the context of the MLFF (Multi Lane Free Flow) plans and related changes in the Act on Public Roads, the Act on Toll Motorways and the National Road Fund that are currently being considered. The important message coming from the presented numbers, mentioned briefly in the Summary, is the system's unexplored possibilities.
