Abstract

I argue that top managers’ political connections can influence the firm’s degree of internationalization through three mechanisms: resource provision, government intervention and personal values. I find that top managers’ executive connections facilitate the firm’s internationalization, while legislative connections hinder the firm’s internationalization. Furthermore, the impact of top managers’ political connections is strengthened by private ownership and CEO duality.
