Abstract

The article presents the problem of methane detection with a multispectral infrared camera. It also presents some commercially available devices and method used for the detection of chemical substances (gases). The project of a multispectral infrared camera and theoretical calculation regarding the possibility of methane detection is also reported in this paper. The calculations included the properties of optical path: camera-cloud of methane background. Verification of theoretical results was made during laboratory measurement. Some initial results of methane detection are also presented. © 2009 WIT Press.
