In this chapter I engage with the evolving issue of how artificial intelligence (AI) relates to human creativity and the present and future possibilities of how AI might change the ways creativity is understood and applied. The chapter begins with the survey of the territory, historically and conceptually, to establish the ground for the discussion, with focus on understandings of creativity, consciousness, learning, and intelligence. The problem of defining these terms in the light of the development of AI is discussed. Then I propose a thinking model for the intersections between creativity and AI containing four distinct spaces of intersection built on the notions of ‘narrow’ and ‘wide’ as pertaining to both creativity and AI. The purpose of the thinking model is not to offer any definitive answers but to suggest areas for exploration and to foster conversations in this emerging area of research and practice. Practical examples and implications that emerge from my exploration of the model are offered, with particular focus on examples related to education.
