Abstract

Lateral internal sphincterotomy is indicated for a painful chronic anal fissure not responsive to conservative treatment or pharmacologic therapy. This chapter describes the surgical strategy and technique. Indications, contraindications, preoperative preparation, postoperative care, and complications are also discussed.
