Abstract

The first author's subject is high- production- rate shearing and the second discusses mechanical handling for high- production- rate shearing. The reasons for the necessity to design guillotine- shears of high accuracy are considered and the methods used in shear design to obtain this accuracy given. The use of numerical control in shearing operations is described. High production shears require adequate mechanical- handling facilities if full advantage of the potential high- production rate is to be obtained. Details of typical mechanical- handling equipment suitable for shearing operations are described and illustrated.
