This study aims to explain the use of literary texts in BIPA teaching and learning (Indonesian as a Foreign Language) as the authentic materials. The use of literary texts cover teaching four integrated skills including speaking, listening, reading, and writing. This study also explains how important the role of literary texts in BIPA teaching and learning. In addition, what are the criteria of good literary texts which are suitable for foreign language teaching? Furthermore, this study examines the problems, challenges, and advantages of teaching literary texts in the context of BIPA teaching and learning. Therefore, the researcher describes the steps on how to choose literary texts materials, designs meaningful activities in the class, and gives an example on how to teach literary texts to the BIPA students at an advanced level. The study found that short stories entitled Filosofi Kopi and Senja untuk Pacarku could be used as literary text materials for BIPA learners in advanced level by considering the complexities, language uses, themes, characters, and social isuues in the stories. Furthermore, the study examines some factors that must be considered when the teacher decided to use a literary text in BIPA classroom. These two short stories could be used as the materials to teach literary texts in BIPA classroom completed by the directive and meaningful tasks.
