Promoting and evaluating evidence-based telepsychology interventions: Lessons learned from the University of Kentucky Telepsychology Lab

Abstract

This chapter describes how both authors became interested in telepsychology research and offers an overview and insights from projects that have been conducted in the University of Kentucky Telepsychology Lab. Projects include a focus on the use of videoconference and telephonic technology to deliver a group-based parenting program, the use of videoconferencing to provide supervision to doctoral psychology trainees, and an evaluation of how empathic accuracy and the therapeutic alliance are influenced by technology formats. Lastly, the authors share the opportunities and challenges of starting a telepsychology in pursuit of establishing an evidence base for the delivery of telepsychology services.
