Abstract

(from the chapter) Argues that there are 2 methodological issues in domestic violence research that are interlinked: definitional problems of the dependent measure, namely how domestic violence is defined, and definitional issues related to the diagnosis of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) for those who experience domestic violence. Next, the difficulties of measuring PTSD domestic violence victims are discussed. Illustrations of the problems are given from studies which the author has conducted at the Emergency Department of a public hospital in Australia.
